70년대 초기에 온 이민자 들 중 그때 중고등학생이었던 사람들이 40대 중반이 넘었는데 다들 그러지야 않겠지만 일반적으로 영어로도 한국어로도 공문서를 만들 수 없으며 같은 상황의 사람들과 만나 70년대 초반에 쓰이던 한국말이나 은어로 대화를 한다. 이들의 공통점은 또 상당 수가 대학에 입학을 했다가 중간에 낙오하고 일부는 아슬아슬하게 졸업은 했으나 대학원에 진학을 못해 제대로 취직이 어려워 일반적으로 가게들을 하게 되었다. 물론 이들이 이렇게 된 가장 큰 이유는 학생 때부터 한국 아이들끼리만 몰려 다니며 영어를 제대로 배우지 못하고 여기 문화를 이해하지 못해서 인데 우리 2세들이 그 전철을 다시 밟지 않으려면 영어에 신경을 쓰고 그러기 위해서 책 읽기에 흥미를 붙여야 하므로 우선 캐나다 작가들의 추천도서를 여기에 소개한다.
