Why Vote for Me

This time, we in BC will decide who forms the government.

The race is so close across Canada, that British Columbians will have a deciding say.  A major Ekos poll released Saturday has the Liberals nipping at the heels of the Conservatives in BC, with the NDP trailing in third place.  The Liberals have held firm throughout the campaign in BC and have led polls in the Lower Mainland.

The race is close, very close, and we have a chance here in BC to ensure that there is a progressive, balanced government in Ottawa that will manage our economy well and protect the values Canadians believe in.

I am calling on NDP voters to think very carefully this weekend.  British Columbians want to stop Stephen Harper - but to make that happen, we must elect Liberals.  In this election, an NDP vote will help the Conservatives hold on to their seats.

TO PREVENT A CONSERVATIVE VICTORY, VOTE LIBERAL.

On June 28th, you have a choice

If you believe¡¦
-In aircraft carriers over health care.
-In Mulroney-Harris-Eves failed economics and deficits.
-We should have gone to war in Iraq.
-Women shouldn¡¯t have the right to choose.
-Charter rights should be subject to political interference.
-Kyoto should be scrapped.

Then sit on the sidelines by not voting. Or vote NDP or Green Party.
Both parties have their merits. But a vote for either will do nothing to reduce the chances of a right wing Harper government.
Stephen Harper says he wants to change Canada in a way ¡°you won¡¯t recognize.¡±

The choice for progressive voters is clear.

Or if you believe¡¦
-In public health care and shorter waiting times.
-In protecting the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
-In continuing to balance the books.
-In an independent Canada.
Then, on June 28th, vote Liberal and stop American-style policies that won¡¯t work in Canada.

Only the Liberals can prevent Stephen Harper and his hidden agenda from fundamentally changing our country.

On June 28th, choose your Canada.
VOTE LIBERAL.

CAN WE AFFORD ANOTHER MULRONEY-HARPER GOVERNMENT?

The Conservatives want to lower the tax by 25% while increasing spending.  AND they claim that their 25% federal tax cut will be revenue-neutral (ie. the same amount of money as before the cut) to maintain social programs.

The Canadian GNP is over $1 trillion.  For illustration, let¡¯s assume that the GNP is $100.  Now the federal tax is 20% of the GNP, so the federal government gets $20.

If the Conservatives lower the tax rate by 25%, the new federal tax is 15% of the GNP, and the federal government gets $15.  But the Conservatives claim that the economy would grow so fast that 15% tax on the GNP will yield the same $20.  This would only be true if the new GNP is $135, since 15% of $135 is $20.  In other words, the economy must grow at 35% per year.  An absolute impossibity since our growth rate is between 2% - 4%.

Brian Mulroney, former Conservative Prime Minister, lowered taxes and increased spending.  He did it by means of borrowing money; deficit.

Mulroney, Harper¡¯s mentor and teacher, tripled the debt from $150 billion to $500 billion.

If the Conservatives start borrowing money again, it will result in two things:  DEBT and DEFICIT.  This will result in a higher interest rate and a lower Canadian dollar.  The Conservatives will have to increase the interest rate even higher to protect the value of our Canadian dollar.

This means your mortgage payment will skyrocket as the interest rate jumps, and some of us could lose our homes.

Please vote for responsible management of the economy, and a balanced approach to taxation and expenditure.

PLEASE VOTE LIBERAL TO PREVENT A REINCARNATION OF MULRONEY.

Kwangyul and his wife, Sonia, first moved to BC from Ottawa 12 years ago and shortly thereafter settled into Heritage Mountain to raise a family.  They have been residents of Port Moody ever since, now with a 9-year old daughter and 2-year old son.

As a highly specialized economist, Kwangyul¡¯s consulting business requires a great deal of travel to meet with clients in North America, Asia and Europe.  When Kwangyul is not travelling, he enjoys hiking with his family along the trails of Buntzen Lake and playing soccer.  The family also spends time together at the Port Moody public library and the Coquitlam Aquatic Complex.

As a long-time community member, Kwangyul is a strong advocate for local small business owners.  He did not hesistate to take on Gordon Campbell in a fight to defend their economic interests.  This highly publicized battle was covered by the BC media, including CBC TV, CBC radio, CTV, City TV and the Georgia Straight.  On October 15, 2002, The Vancouver Sun ran a special editorial in support of Kwangyul¡¯s efforts in defeating Campbell on the issue.

He loves to support community activities and is particularly proud of his daughter¡¯s participation in the Port Moody Girls¡¯ Soccer League.  It was his great honour to attend and speak at the recent Polish Cultural Heritage festival in Port Coquitlam.  In donating his time, he has helped establish a non-profit Mandarin language school in Port Moody.  Among the hundreds of lectures he has delivered during his career, his favourite was explaining the foreign exchange rate and determination of the value of the Canadian dollar to the grade 6 and 7 students of Summit Middle School in Coquitlam.

Being a long-time resident of Port Moody, Kwangyul understands the concerns of his community.  He is passionate about contributing to its present and future success and will continue to fight for the people of the TriCities.

On June 28, 2004, please vote for Kwangyul Peck.
